Quilters of St. Thomas More

We love to quilt and we live to serve

Since 2001 a group of women have been meeting weekly to make quilts and quilted projects at St. Thomas More. Originally we met in the Chelsea Center and were part of Crafty Ladies. We soon formed our own ministry because our numbers were increasing and we needed more space to work. Now we have 12 to 15 women who meet often twice weekly and still enjoy their favorite pastime together.
Over the years we have served many organizations with our donated items: Solve, Veterans, Floyd Nursing Home, Arcadia Ministries, SPARCC, Our Mother’s House, St. Martha’s, St. Jude’s Parish and Bethesda House.

We pledged money for Catch the Spirit and currently made a pledge for Our Spirit Soars at St. Thomas More. We also donated auction quilts to the Bishop’s Ball for Catholic Charities, Boots and Bandanas Ball and Our Mother’s House Wine Galas. As well, all proceeds from our recent quilt raffle will go directly to St. Thomas More for “Our Spirit Soars”.

Our yearly layette shower for Sister Anne’s Arcadian families, which is supported by STM parish members, usually donates around 27 bags of baby items many we have sewn or our part-time supporters have knitted. In addition, we will give cash donations to Sr. Anne,
Our Mother’s House and Bethesda House for their work with families and HIV/Aids persons. We are always expanding our service contacts as new groups need our quilted offerings. As an example, Mothers Helping Mothers is a new group we are planning to help.
It is our pleasure to meet together in the Spirit Center, work with laughter and share our talents with our communities. We always welcome new members, so even if you only sew a straight line, you will enjoy learning new skills, and meeting our cooperative group.
